Baseball

Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams, typically consisting of nine players each. The game is played on a diamond-shaped field with four bases arranged in a square. The objective is for one team, known as the batting team, to score runs by hitting a ball thrown by the opposing team’s pitcher and running around the bases. The opposing team, known as the fielding team, aims to get batters out through strikeouts, catching batted balls, or tagging runners.

The sport is divided into nine innings, where each team has a turn to bat and a turn to field. A run is scored when a player successfully reaches home plate after touching all four bases in order. Baseball emphasizes skills such as hitting, pitching, fielding, and base-running, and is known for its strategic elements, rules, and culture. It has developed a rich history and is often referred to as America’s pastime, although it is played and followed globally.
